Michael Kleinherne, 1964 in Westfalen geboren, lebt seit 1991 in Eichstätt (Bayern).
Er arbeitet – nach Promotion in Germanistik und Amerikanistik sowie längeren Auslandsaufenthalten in den USA, Finnland und Österreich – als freier Autor, Kulturjournalist, Universitäts-Dozent, Schreibberater und Englisch-Fachschullehrer.
2012 war er als Dramaturg am Stadttheater Ingolstadt tätig und wird dort in der Spielzeit 2023/24 einen monatlichen Bücherabend moderieren. Er unterrichtet Kreatives Schreiben an der Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt seit 2005. Außerdem ist er dort seit 2020 als Schreibberater tätig, ebenso an der PH Karlsruhe seit 2022.
In ‚Eichstätt organisierte und leitete er von 2012 bis 2022 das jährliche Literaturfestival LiteraPur (mit namhaften Autoren wie U. Timm, S. Stanisic, N. Gomringer oder T. Glavinic).
Er ist Vorstandsmitglied im Verband Deutscher Schriftsteller Regionalgruppe München Oberbayern. Außerdem gehört er einer Münchener Autorengruppe an, die sich regelmäßig mit dem Lektor Martin Hielscher zur Textbesprechung trifft.
2002 erhielt er den Reportagepreis der Akademie der Bayerischen Presse in München für einen Artikel über ein hyperaktives Kind. 2015 war er mit dem Kulturkanal Ingolstadt Kulturpreisträger der Stadt Neuburg/Donau.
2012 erschien sein Kurzgeschichtenband „Drehpause“ im Jos.Fritz Verlag Freiburg. Das Buch ist mittlerweile in der 3. Auflage erschienen und wird zurzeit für eine eventuelle Veröffentlichung in den USA ins Englische übersetzt. Eine von verschiedenen Rezensionen findet sich unter literaturkritik.de (Ausgabe April 2016, unter „Wiedergelesen und neugelesen: Debüts revisited“).
2014 kam die Novelle „Daniel“ im BP-Verlag Reichertshofen heraus. Sie wurde in der Sendung „Tagesgespräch“ im Bayerischen Rundfunk (Bayern2) vom 18.12.2014 als Lesetipp empfohlen.
2016 erschien der Roman „Die Aktion“ im BP-Verlag, 2020 der Roman „Der Mann auf dem Foto“ ebenfalls dort.
2022 wurde der Roman „Absinth“ im Kulturmaschinen Verlag Hamburg herausgegeben.
Verschiedene Kurzgeschichten sind in unterschiedlichen Anthologien veröffentlicht worden.
Die Zeitschrift „Akzente“ veröffentlicht im Herbst 2016 Gedichte von Alexei Makushinsky, an deren Übersetzung aus dem Russischen er mitgearbeitet hat.
Er hat auf vielen Lesungen deutschlandweit aus seinen Büchern gelesen. 2015 las er auf Einladung der University of Dallas am Dallas Goethe Center.

Sie kam über Nacht und blieb: die Corona Pandemie. In wenigen Jahren werden wir die Texte zu Corona und zum Lockdown lesen und nur noch staunen: War das wirklich so? Schriftsteller*innen waren stets Seismographen für die Zustände in der Gesellschaft, was sich in dieser Anthologie wieder sehr eindringlich bestätigt. Die hier vorliegenden Geschichten und Gedichte zeigen zu welchem Ideenreichtum und welcher Kreativität Menschen in Krisensituationen fähig sind, aber auch zu welchen Absurditäten.
Diese Anthologie ist schon jetzt ein historischer Schatz.
